The New York sour has been around longer than any living human. Seems as before the last few months, none of us had seemed to of even heard of the New York sour, never mind made one! It’s so simply, you take a whiskey sour and give it a red wine float… Why has no one thought of this before! Something that has recently been created and is taking off. It’s easy to believe that this is a modern classic. As we are seeing today, with New York Sours served in everything from champagne flutes to rocks glasses and executed from the very basic shake and layer to the more complex milk washing and clarification. Not to mention that despite their impressive look, they are pretty easy to execute and leave Plenty of room for creativity. They are fun to make and look amazing in photos - perfect for Instagram. Its smooth, complex, offers a range of flavour with a citrus bite and not to mention easy to make. Put the sugar and water in a pan and place over a medium heat.If you love the classic whisky sour then you’re going to love this classic twist. It’s stupidly simple to make and handy to have in your cocktail cupboard. Pour slowly so as not to inadvertently mix the wine. To create the layer of red wine, pour your room temperature red over the back of a spoon and into the glass until you have a good layer. Then strain over ice into a Delmonico glass, or glass of your choice. In your ice-filled shaker add the spirit, lemon, syrup and (optional) egg white and shake until chilled. It didn’t leave the Windy City with that name however. The temptation to suggest that the best things about New York were usually started in Chicago but I don’t want to start a fight. The New York Sour is believed to have been created later in the 18th century in Chicago of all places. It first appeared in the 1862 edition of the famed “Jerry Thomas Bartenders Guide”. Versions of the Whisky Sour date back to the mid-1800's. It’s the perfect cocktail to look cool on a date night or at a party as this red-topped twist on a Whisky Sour looks good and tastes great.
